Dr Bob claims a world first for Aussies


LONGTIME Toowoomba veterinarian and avian specialist Dr Bob Doneley is the first Australian to win the prestigious TJ Lafeber Avian Practitioner of the Year Award. Dr Doneley said he was proud to have been announced the winner of the world-recognised award at ExoticsCon in Atlanta, USA. In clinical practice for 36 years, Dr Doneley owned the West Toowoomba Veterinary Surgery for 22 years from 1988-2010.

After a year of extensive research, veterinarian Steph Stubbe has launched her first collection of dog collars and leads made from recycled plastic. The inspiration came to her during a study placement where she found herself treating wildlife injured as a result of plastic waste.

What Vets Think of '23andMe for Dogs'


More and more companies are selling DNA-test kits for pets. When Mars Petcare launched its first DNA test for dogs, in 2007, you could only get it through a vet. The breed-mix test required a blood draw, and Mars thought vets could help interpret the results for inquiring dog owners. But veterinarians, it turned out, weren’t so keen on newfangled DNA tests then.
